A new class action lawsuit against Amazon and YouTube’s top earner, MrBeast (Jimmy Donaldson), could have far-reaching implications for influencer marketing and advertising, according to industry experts. The lawsuit, filed on September 16 in Los Angeles Superior Court, comes from five anonymous contestants who participated in MrBeast’s reality competition show, Beast Games, which premiered on Amazon Prime in March 2024.
Beast Games was billed as one of the largest reality competitions ever, featuring over 1,000 contestants competing for a $5 million prize. However, the lawsuit paints a darker picture, alleging mistreatment, unsafe working conditions, and sexual harassment, especially towards female contestants. The plaintiffs also claim the production misclassified them as volunteers to secure tax credits, denying them basic labor rights like minimum wage and overtime pay.
